Yes, it's true! gDiapers introduces biodegradable diapers in North America. These things are awesome! I've heard of cloth diapers before but these come with the option of having a disposable insert (which is biodegradable, flushable and compostable) or a cloth insert (which can be used over and over). Genius!
The cloth insert (above) is made of two layers of baby-soft micro fleece to draw moisture away from baby's bottom and two layers of hemp/cotton to trap the wetness so baby stays dry.
The disposable inserts (above) are plastic-free and they can be flushed, home composted or tossed. No stinky diaper pail and no landfill necessary. Here's a diagram to give you a better look and idea on how they work.
I'd like to have another baby someday, and these would save me so much money. They are a bit pricey though ($84.99 for a 6-pack!!) so I'm considering making the diaper and the cloth inserts myself.
I actually found a great pin on Pinterest for a DIY cloth diaper pattern via 'It's a Long Story'. The very worthy pattern can be found here.
