Fall Wedding

Some good friends of mine are getting married this fall in the bush. They are such friendly, loving and accepting friends and I wanted to make them a special gift. Now, I haven't ever made a blanket yet but I am so excited! I had to show you a preview of what I have so far [I have to hurry though!] Pattern via Attic24, the fantastic easy pattern can be found here.

UPDATE: So it's been about 5 days (feels like a month..) since I was at this point. I'm now finishing up row 6. I seriously feel like it's going to and is taking me a lifetime. I'm very nervous that I will not get this made in time for September 28th but here's hoping!! Between school work, work work, personal work and life...It will truly be a miracle is I finish this in time. Anyways heres a progress photo! It's looking GREAT and I am really excited to see the final product when it's done.

UPDATE: So, the wedding is this weekend and I was clearly in over my head with this project. As much as I tried to finish this, it was next to impossible. The beautiful yarn I used was discontinued and each one only made 8 rows on this huge blanket. Sooo.....I've altered this project to a matching pair of slippers. More photos to come! (and the wedding).

UPDATE: The wedding was absolutely amazing, full of love of friendships. Check out a few photos from their big day.

DIY: Felt Heart Bookmark

These felt bookmarks are super easy to make and very cute too.
1. Fold 1 felt sheet in half, cut out a heart (the black one). With the second heart, cut it in half.

2. With another colour (or whichever you desire), cut out a smaller heart.
3. Stitch the button onto the smaller heart. Place the smaller heart over the bigger one with the half-bigger heart on the bottom.

4. Stitch the half-bigger heart onto the back of the big heart. And your done!

My Cruiser Repaint

I'm going to start by expressing my love for cruiser bikes. I LOVE THEM! I've always dreamed of having one. One of my favourite movies being 'Now & Then', the four girls are always riding around their town circa 1970 with their cruiser bikes and oh it brings me so much youth. That might sound a bit odd granted that I am only 23 (Shh!!!) it's just something about those days, 1940-1970...ahhhh so much love for it.

But let's stay on topic, shall we? I finally got myself one!! Eeeee! This is it [below]. My Huffy Cranbrook Cruiser.

I purchased this bike from Wal-mart, it was the last one before they discontinued them so tons of girls in my town have these bikes. Now I LOVE the colours of it already, it has that vintage look to it buuuuuuut I don't want the same bike as other people. I want an awesome, wowing cruiser bike that I've always dreamed of. So this post is basically me swishing around ideas and colour schemes in my head onto the computer.

Summer Popsicle - Lime green and fuchsia will be the colours for the body, rims and fins. The basket would be spray painted black and the cream colour could be somewhere in the small parts (not completely sure yet).

Beachwalk Ice Cream - Very similar to what it currently is. Keeping the beautiful sea foam colour and adding the coral as a complementing colour. The basket would be painted a dark brown and the beige would be on the rims.

Bold Babe - Turquoise and cherry for the body colours, white for details and a black basket.

I am still undecided as to which one I want to choose. The Summer Popsicle scheme is awesomely vibrant and playful; Beachwalk Ice Cream is very cutesy and playful; and Bold Babe is unique and classy looking. Which do you like most?

Feel free to give suggestions and comments too :)

Funny Signs

I was sifting through images on my computer when I came across these signs that I created. They were a silly idea I had when my sister, mom and myself went on a trip to Vancouver. These would have been very funny and handy to have had on that trip :p

This first one is based on those 'N' and 'L' signs that ICBC require you to display when driving. (You'll understand if your from Canada, more specifically BC).

DIY Felt Sugar Cookies

Not only are these little 'sugar cookies' adorable, they're super easy to make. I made these for my baby sister and my niece last year for the holidays and they are absolutely in love with them. They are also perfect for little tea parties :)

Here is what you need to make 6 cookies,

Felt Sheets (2-3 beige, 1 pink, 1 white & 1 brown)
Small Beads (I used 4-5 different sets)
Beige Thread
Sewing Needle

With a piece of paper, grab a cup and trace the rim. Cut the shape out of the paper and pin it onto your beige felt sheets. It might be easier to cut through 2 sheets at once (for the top and bottom of the cookie).

After you've cut out a total of 12 beige circles, use the paper circle pattern to make the 'icing'. Follow the same instruction as you did with the beige sheets for the other colours.

Once you have all the felt cut out, start by hand-stitching several beads onto each 'icing top'. This is how the icing is attached to the cookie top. Then your going to Blanket Stitch  the cookie top & bottom together. Once you get a little over halfway around, fill it with the batting and continue stitching until its closed. Continue for rest of cookies until your done.

Weekly Pinterest Finds

Since I am on Pinterest practically ALL the time, I figured that I would make weekly posts on my top finds. I am addicted to this site (as is everyone else who is in love with it). Often times when I make things, the first thing my family asks if is, "Did you make that from interest?" haha its so true but it's such a fantastic site because its constantly keeping you inspired and motivated.

Me being a Graphic & Multimedia designer, I am always having to keep myself inspired to keep my artistic and creative brain juices flowing (if you will) and thats why Pinterest is so valuable to me.

But moving on, here for my top ten recent finds on Pinterest that are worth sharing. Enjoy!

Summer Style 2012

Yay for summer! And at the same time I'm saying, 'Ugh...summer." I'm not one for short shorts and bikinis so I will share with you my current styles for this summer.

I live in the Okanagan and boy does it ever get hot. I can't complain too much though because B.C get the best winter and summer temperatures compared to the rest of Canada.

Maxi dresses & skirts. I am absolutely in love with these this year!

Check out my interest boards for awesome DIY tutorials on how to make your own maxi skirts and dresses.

All are from Garage.ca (except no. 1)

For the beach:

This bathing suit was one of my 'splurges' earlier this year when I found it at Swimco for $112. I never thought a bathing suit at such a price would be justifiable but then I thought about it...it covers my least favourite body parts, its adorable and its got a retro style. So worth it!

This sun hat is so cute! I want more in different colours. This hat is from Claire's.

To go along with my part-time retro style, bandanas are a perfect way to achieve that retro look on the beach or with a blouse and some denim shorts.

What is your favourite summer piece this year?

Strawberry Love

Strawberries are one of my absolute favourite fruits of all time, always have been and most likely always will be. Last year I planted a small strawberry shrub in my garden which quickly took over my garden. Sadly, bugs kept eating them so I never got to. This year, I got one of those upside down planters for strawberries and transferred it. They were growing great for awhile until I got spur caught up with work, school and well...life. I tend to take on several [hundred] projects at once, maybe its cause I like to keep busy?

This is what I WISH and thought they would look like....but now they are the complete opposite hah.

Anyways, I basically killed my strawberry plant. I know...I'm terrible. But at least I still have tomatoes and raspberries (and the original strawberry plants still taking over my garden and still being a great provider of food for the buggies).

I wish these were some of my strawberries [before I let them die] however they only ever grew very tiny but super sweet and yummy. I found these AHdorable strawberry cups at a thrift store recently and couldn't walk away from them. My iPhone takes AWESOME pictures!! I almost don't even need to invest in one of those digital SLR's [maybe someday].

What have you fudged up with gardening?

Recipes: Egg & Flax Toast with Cruda Potatoes

I dread dinner time, I really do. I rarely know what to make let alone have the energy to do so. At the same time, I don't want to run out and grab something quickly. I want to have something fresh and healthy for my family to eat.

So yet again, I came up with another yummy and healthy dinner (using some leftovers too).

Homemade guacamole puree on top of flax and whole grain toast topped with cheddar cheese. For the red potato chunks I threw in some leftover Cruda with freshly diced peppers and my secret seasoning.

Recipes: Cruda Rice Spinach Wrap

As a part of my goal (trying to eat healthier) I made a quick run to the store to gather ingredients up for dinner and this recipe is what came of it. Everything was homemade (except the tortillas). This is a rough recipe because I just kind of threw it all together last minute so I apologize but there are many recipes out there for Cruda and Guacamole.

Cruda Recipe:

2-3 tomatoes, diced
1/2 white onion
lime or lemon juice to taste
1/2 bunch cilantro leaves, chopped
pinch of sugar
pinch of cayenne or paprika
salt to taste

Guacamole Recipe:
lime juice
salt & pepper to taste

I started by making the Cruda in one bowl and the Guacamole in another bowl. After everything was done, I threw it all together to make this yummy healthy dinner.
